Ty Jerome is one of the many reasons the Cleveland Cavaliers are thriving this year.
He is scoring more than ever before and has become a vital part of their lineup.
So, what’s next for him and his relationship with the Cavaliers?
Writing for The Athletic, Jason Lloyd reported on what’s ahead for Jerome and the Cavs.
“As for Jerome, who is a free agent this summer, a two-year, $23 million offer probably makes the most sense from the Cavs’ perspective. It’s likely going to be the most they can give him per year, and the two seasons align with the contention window of their other complementary players. If Jerome, who turns 28 this summer and is in the midst of a career year, wants to capitalize and take more years or squeeze more money out of a team with its full midlevel exception, the Cavs might ultimately lose him,” Lloyd said.
Jerome is averaging 11.4 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game this season, which is a massive improvement from last year when he was earning 2.0 points, 0.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists.
The Cavaliers are using Jerome a lot more too and he is playing for an average of 19.1 minutes per game.
He is a clear example of just how deep the roster is and the Cavaliers would love to keep him around.
His age and contract perfectly align with the team’s championship window and they think he could be part of a title run.
With that being said, they aren’t willing or able to spend too much on Jerome.
But he knows he’s flourishing, so he could attempt to get a better contract with another franchise.
And if that happens, the Cavs might part ways with him.
Cleveland hopes Jerome stays with them, but they are willing to make a tough choice if they have to.
