The Cleveland Cavaliers are still the team to beat in the Eastern Conference, holding a muscular 43-10 record with just a couple of months left in the regular season.
Right now, they have a great shot at going far in the playoffs and many people predict a championship could be in their future.
But how much longer will they reign supreme in the East?
Writing for The Athletic, Jason Lloyd said the Cavaliers’ championship window is the next three postseasons, but things will get much harder after that.
“Enjoy the next three Junes. The window is open. The sun is shining. They represent the Cavs’ best shot at a championship before winds of change start blowing,” Lloyd said.
That’s a relatively short amount of time but the NBA moves quickly so the Cavs are lucky to have even that.
The Eastern Conference is already incredibly tough and several other teams won’t go down without a fight.
The Boston Celtics, for example, are a powerful second seed with their 38-16 record.
Of course, they are the reigning champions too so they should never be counted out.
But other teams like the New York Knicks, Milwaukee Bucks, and Indiana Pacers have been making a lot of noise.
The thing that is most dangerous about all the competition is that it’ll only grow in the next few years.
There has been a lot of moving and shaking in the East and it’s clear that teams aren’t content with a dynasty growing, whether it be the Cavaliers, Celtics, or anyone else.
They will do whatever they can to challenge the top seeds and it feels like the next few years could be very fluid in this conference.
Teams like the Philadelphia 76ers, Orlando Magic, or even the Detroit Pistons could surge because of trades and developing young talent.
So if the Cavaliers don’t make a successful title run in the next few years, their window could be slammed shut.
