Just the other day, the Phoenix Suns announced a new head coach: Jordan Ott, who was previously an assistant coach for the Brooklyn Nets and Los Angeles Lakers.
Ott was also an assistant coach for the Cleveland Cavaliers last year, and he apparently did a lot of good things for the team.
Speaking on the “Wine and Gold Talk” podcast, Chris Fedor touched upon how impactful Ott was with the Cavaliers and especially big man Evan Mobley.
“The guy that was given the responsibility to oversee the most important player in the organization’s development was Jordan Ott. That’s how much Kenny Atkinson trusts Jordan Ott,” Fedor said. “Every time Evan Mobley did any kind of workout on the floor, Jordan Ott was right there. Anytime Evan Mobley watched film, Jordan Ott was right next to him, pointing out intricate details to try and focus on those details to help Evan become a better player and help the Cavs become a better team. A big reason why Evan had the breakthrough season that he did and became the player that he did, it had to do with Jordan.”
It sounds like Ott was right by Mobley’s side all year, and that resulted in him having the best season of his career.
Mobley was incredible in 2024-25, setting new standards for his game and earning Defensive Player of the Year.
Apparently, Ott had a huge hand in that and helped him reach his next level.
Now, what can he do for the Suns?
He has his work cut out for him because Phoenix is far from where they want to be.
They have been stuck in a rut for a few years now, and Ott needs to get them back on track, possibly with a radically different roster.
Ott did well with his previous jobs, but he is about to take on his biggest challenge yet.
