Will the Cleveland Cavaliers look the exact same when the new season begins?
Right now, a lot of people are wondering what president Koby Altman will do, specifically regarding the core four of Donovan Mitchell, Darius Garland, Evan Mobley, and Jarrett Allen.
Will one or more than one of them be leaving in the summer?
Writing for Hoops Wire, Sam Amico gave some insight into what the team’s front office is thinking.
“Altman will listen. That much we know. But unless it clearly improves the team — or helps stabilize things — the core four might still be intact this fall. Then again, in today’s NBA, that’s a status that can change with one phone call,” Amico wrote. “For now, though, we should believe Altman. The Cavaliers and their core four of Garland, Allen, Donovan Mitchell, and Evan Mobley are highly likely to remain the future.”
The fact that Altman is even open to the idea of trading away any of these stars says a lot about the thinking in Cleveland.
A year ago, a move like this seemed impossible.
This team seemed tight and close, and it was very unlikely that any of these core four would be leaving.
But they were supposed to go all the way to the NBA Finals, and when they couldn’t even make it to the Eastern Conference Finals, fans said that something had to change.
They are repeatedly proving that they have problems in the playoffs, and that just isn’t good enough.
However, the team can only get so much better unless they make adjustments to this group.
Now, Altman has to weigh all his options, listen to offers from other teams, and attempt to forge the best path forward.
