The Cleveland Cavaliers were surprisingly good this season.
While most people agreed that they were a lock to make the playoffs, not many fans or analysts had them winning 64 regular-season games.
That was particularly true after watching the front office double down on a core of players that had underperformed and struggled in the playoffs for two years in a row.
Now, for the third consecutive offseason, the talk about the team is once again whether they should move on from Darius Garland and/or Jarrett Allen.
Nevertheless, regardless of the evidence, former NBA champion Robert Horry is a part of the group that still thinks this group can lead the team to the top.
Talking to Jonathan Peterlin and Nick Wilson on 92.3 The Fan, Horry made a case for the Cavs to run it back with this group:
“I think [the Cavs should] run it back. You might add another piece off the bench. I thought when they got De’Andre Hunter, I said, ‘Oh crap, they’re going to the finals,’ because you’ve got De’Andre, you’ve got Ty Jerome who played exceptionally well this year. You got the bench. When you look at their roster, you’ve got Jarrett Allen, Evan Mobley, you’ve got guys who can erase your mistakes. This team is constructed where they should win a championship soon. They just gotta keep it together, keep believing, and don’t blow it up, because this is a really good team,” Horry said.
Of course, we’ve seen teams like the Denver Nuggets and Boston Celtics grow though their mistakes and finally get over the hump at one point.
Then again, doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is the definition of insanity.
Also, as great players as the Cavs have, they don’t have Nikola Jokic, Jayson Tatum, or Jaylen Brown.
This team is on the verge of championship contention, and it might just need a couple of tweaks to advance to the next level.
The problem is when two of the guys who are supposed to lead the team are the same players who end up hurting it when it matters most.
