The Cleveland Cavaliers still have one open roster spot.
They could use that to bring in a veteran leader to help the youngsters, which is why Kevin Love has been a name that’s been floated around for a while.
Nevertheless, Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report doesn’t see that happening.
Per Fischer, Love isn’t interested in a reunion or playing for a small-market team:
“So with Kevin Love, to my understanding, he really only wants to be in the big glamour markets,” said Fischer. “I do think it would mostly be something along the lines of Kevin Love going to a New York or a Los Angeles type of situation. So, we’ll see if that can materialize for him.”
While bringing back Love would make sense from a nostalgia perspective, Love wasn’t always on the same page with the front office.
There were multiple instances in which Love was tangled up in trade rumors, and he wasn’t always happy when he was in Cleveland.
Also, while he’s a proven veteran with vast postseason experience, he hasn’t been much of a contributor on the court lately.
Love is on the back end of his career, and perhaps the Cavs could hold onto that open roster spot for someone who will give them some minutes off the bench.
According to Chris Fedor, the Cavs aren’t in a rush to fill up that 14th spot on the roster because they know they already have a deep rotation and might have almost everything they need to compete at the highest level.
They could still use another backup big man, but it’s not like Love is known for his rim protection.
Kevin Love played a huge role in the most successful tenure in franchise history, and the fans should always be thankful for that.
But he’s not what this team needs right now, and vice versa.
