The Cleveland Cavaliers have at least 12 legitimate rotation players right now.
They have one of the most stacked starting fives in the game, and plenty of depth on the second unit.
That’s why Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com reports they’re in no rush to fill their final roster spot.
“I just think the Cavs are in no hurry [to fill up the 14th roster spot],” Fedor said. “I think they understand the makeup of this roster and they understand that guy 14 is really not going to be a consequential member of the Cavs.”
Head coach Kenny Atkinson may give the younger players a longer leash next season.
Jaylon Tyson was solid as a rookie but wasn’t given much of an opportunity.
He has the potential to be an impactful 3-and-D wing, and with a year of experience under his belt, he should be in for an expanded role.
There have also been positive reports about Nae’Qwan Tomlin, who turned heads in the G League and dominated at the Summer League.
He’s tough and physical, two of the things the team needs the most.
Tyrese Proctor could also take Craig Porter Jr.’s minutes because of his elite shooting skills, especially considering that the coaching staff reportedly wanted to see Porter work harder to earn some playing time.
The Cavs don’t have the ability to spend much money on free agents right now, and they’re not likely to make a big-time trade either.
That limits their options, and whoever they get for that roster spot isn’t likely to be an impact player.
Adding Lonzo Ball and bringing back Larry Nance Jr. were underrated yet productive offseason moves.
As things stand, it looks like the team is set, and while there could be an addition here and there, they will most likely roll with this roster.
