The Cleveland Cavaliers are finally facing some adversity.
It had been a smooth ride for Kenny Atkinson’s team for most of the campaign, but they’re now enduring a three-game losing streak.
However, instead of being angry, sad, or even worried, Donovan Mitchell is actually happy.
When asked his thoughts about the team’s current situation, the former Utah Jazz combo guard claimed that he actually loved fighting through adversity:
āIām trying to refrain from using the word happy,ā Mitchell explained after a sloppy game where Cleveland squandered multiple double-digit leads, was outscored 76-63 during a defenseless second half and outexecuted in crunch time. Iām kind of a sicko, so I enjoy this. This is what makes the season fun ā going through adversity.ā
Of course, that’s not what the fans want to hear at this point in the season.
It wasn’t realistic to believe they were going to win every single game this season, but they’ve still had one of the greatest – if not the greatest – campaigns in franchise history.
Then again, the playoffs are just around the corner, so this is most definitely not the time to think about adversity or struggles.
There’s nothing wrong with dropping a game or two or taking your foot off the gas after clinching a postseason berth and, most likely, the No. 1 seed in the conference.
However, the Cavs are showing some worrisome tendencies, especially in second halves, and while they’ve already shown that they can beat anybody when they’re at their best, bad habits tend to stick and snowball.
The Cavs need to get back to what worked for them earlier in the season.
Mitchell in particular hasn’t been very good down the stretch, so if he wants to fight through adversity, he might want to start with finding his groove and his shot back.
