Evan Mobley is the Cleveland Cavaliers’ most talented player.
However, this is still Donovan Mitchell’s team.
As such, they need their best scorer to take a big step forward when it matters the most, and that hasn’t been the case lately.
The Cavs have dropped three games in a row, and a lot of that has had to do with Mitchell’s poor shooting, especially down the stretch.
As pointed out by Evan Dammarell on X, Mitchell has shot just 11-37 (29.7%) in the second half and 7-24 (29.2%) in the fourth quarter during the three-game losing streak.

His shot isn't falling when Cleveland needs it the most.

Granted, the offense has looked lost and they’ve improvised a lot during this stretch as well, so it’s not all on Mitchell.
However, this has been a worrisome trend in the past as well.
Either because of injury or exhaustion, Mitchell hasn’t been the same explosive scorer in the playoffs in recent years as he was when he first entered the league.
Of course, there’s no need to panic or sound the alarms just yet, as the Cavs will still most likely finish the season with the best record in the Eastern Conference.
However, they’re no longer in control of their destiny when it comes to clinching homecourt advantage in the NBA Finals, as the Oklahoma City Thunder are now in the lead.
You never want to make the playoffs on a low note.
This team still has more than enough time to recover and return to the smart and free-flowing offense they ran earlier in the season, but it needs to start now.
