The Cleveland Cavaliers need to strike gold in the NBA Draft.
Unless they make a trade, they won’t have a first-round pick.
Considering that, they can’t afford to drop the ball with either of their second-round selections, and they will need to target NBA-ready players who can contribute right off the jump.
That’s why it’s not much of a surprise to see them working out and setting their sights on older prospects.
As reported by Rob Murrows of Ball Report X, the Cavs hosted Florida State guard Jamir Watkins.

Watkins can play on and off the ball as a combo guard, and he’s an absolute pest on the defensive end of the floor.
He’s a solid playmaker with impressive court vision and basketball IQ, and he’s very efficient in pick-and-roll sets.
He can set the tone and play within the rhythm of the offense, and he has a quick first step to drive by his defenders with ease.
Watkins can also switch and guard multiple positions, even bigger players.
On the downside, he’s not much of an efficient scorer, and he’s struggled to improve on that aspect despite spending multiple years in college.
He’s not a reliable three-point shooter, and his 75.8% free-throw shooting raises doubts about any potential improvement.
He’s also not much of an option in catch-and-shoot situations, and things don’t get much better with his finishing skills.
Watkins can be a disruptive defender at the NBA level, but his shooting woes will limit his ceiling at the next level.
