If the Cleveland Cavaliers wish to win their first championship in years this season, they will need to battle the best teams in the NBA.
That will never be an easy task, but the good news is that their current track record suggests they can get it done.
According to Michael Grogins, the Cavaliers have one of the best records against teams at .500 or better this year.
They are 9-4 versus winning teams, behind only the Oklahoma City Thunder at 14-5.
Best NBA records vs teams .500 or better:
1. Thunder: 14-5
2. Cavs: 9-4
3. Rockets: 12-6
4. Celtics: 9-6
5. Knicks: 8-6
6. Grizzlies: 8-7
7. Suns: 10-9
8. Mavericks: 11-10
9. Nuggets: 9-9
10. Hawks: 8-8— Michael Grogins (@mikeygrogins_) December 26, 2024
The usual suspects fill the rest of the list, including the Houston Rockets, Boston Celtics and New York Knicks.
Unsurprisingly, these are some of the best squads in the league right now.
When the season tipped off, the Cavaliers immediately got to work and compiled a long list of impressive wins.
However, some doubtful analysts and fans thought their streak would just be a flash in the pan and eventually, the Cavaliers would slow down and start to lose more often.
Though their record is no longer flawless, the Cavaliers remain the best team in the league and are clearly something special.
It seems like reaching the postseason is inevitable at this point, and that may be when the really hard work begins.
Cleveland will then have to consistently combat teams with stellar track records.
It has been said that winning in the postseason is much harder than winning in the regular season.
The stakes are obviously higher, and playing in a seven-game series adds an extra layer of difficulty and strategy.
But this list shows the Cavaliers are already proving they can play against the strongest opponents.
This is undoubtedly great news for all fans who want to see the Cavaliers hoist the Larry O’Brien Trophy.
