The Cleveland Cavaliers’ season ended with familiar disappointment in the conference semifinals, despite genuine hope from fans throughout the playoffs.
For a while, it felt like 2016 all over again, like something special was building in Cleveland. But it wasn’t meant to be.
Since then, conversations have shifted to improving the roster and possibly finding players who thrive under pressure.
The team showed promise during the regular season, but when the stakes were highest, they struggled to match the intensity of their opponents.
Analyst Anthony Lima recently joined 92.3 The Fan and didn’t hold back when discussing what went wrong.
“They don’t have players on this team with any kind of championship pedigree. Tristan Thompson’s the only one, and he doesn’t play. I’ve talked about them needing some length; they need some athleticism. I do not think they are nearly as athletic as some of the teams that are playing right now, but they also don’t have guys that have been through it,” Lima said.
"It's so dumb to say that they need to get tougher. It is one of the dumbest things ever."

The Cavaliers said everything fans wanted to hear throughout the season. They talked about belief in each other, personal accountability, and focus on their goals.
But when the brightest lights turned on, Cleveland folded under pressure.
They’re not short on talent. They leaned into continuity and showed stretches of promising growth. But come playoff time, it’s not about talent alone.
It’s about grit and that internal fire that pushes players through lethargy and adversity.
The Cavaliers had a solid season filled with growth and progress under Kenny Atkinson’s leadership. They checked many boxes but couldn’t break through.
The real problem was energy. Too many players stood back, waiting for someone else to ignite the charge.
