Even the most diehard Cleveland Cavaliers fan can admit that the team has come up short lately.
They have had a tough time in the postseason, and they need to make some changes in the months ahead.
Writing for Bleacher Report, Grant Hughes touched upon the team’s limited resources and who they could pursue during the summer.
“The Cleveland Cavaliers are short on draft assets after giving up so many to acquire Donovan Mitchell in the 2022 offseason, but yet another playoff disappointment could spur them to push their remaining chips in on a shooter like Cam Johnson,” Hughes wrote. “In the wake of their postseason struggles over the last two years (which had plenty to do with injuries), the Cavs could reorient their closing lineup around one big man, Evan Mobley, and add Johnson’s career 39.2 percent three-point shooting to the mix.”
Hughes added that the Brooklyn Nets would likely want more than just a single first-round pick, so the Cavaliers would have to offer a lot if they really wish to add Johnson to the lineup.
Johnson is a player who has been tied to trade rumors for multiple seasons now.
In 2024-25, he put up 18.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game on 47.5 percent from the field and 39.0 percent from the three-point line.
He brings the sort of shooting the Cavaliers desire, especially when injuries continually flare up.
The Nets are a team that would likely do business with anyone for the right price, so the Cavaliers could make a deal happen if they are willing to put up enough.
But they will have to take this idea seriously, because someone will probably try to get Johnson this summer.
