When people talk about the Cleveland Cavaliers, they rave about their core four, and rightfully so.
Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley lock down the paint while Darius Garland and Donovan Mitchell take care of business on the perimeter.
However, Ty Jerome may be the team’s X-Factor.
His play off the bench has been nothing short of spectacular this season, especially as of late.
As pointed out by Cavs Notes on X, Jerome has been on a tear over his past three games.
.@tyjerome_'s last 3 games:
20 PTS (7-12 FG, 4-6 3FG), 1 STL
26 PTS (9-16 FG, 3-7 3FG), 2 STL
19 PTS (7-11 FG, 3-4 3FG), 2 STLOver the last 15 games, he is averaging:
16.1 PTS
3.1 REB
3.3 AST
1.3 STL
23.0 MIN
.556 FG% (89-160)
.485 3FG% (32-66)
.886 FT% (31-35)#LetEmKnow— Cavs Notes (@CavsNotes) February 26, 2025
His averages over his last 15 games are also much better than one would expect from a backup point guard, as he’s posted averages of 16.1 points, 3.1 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.3 steals in just 23.0 minutes per game.
He’s shot 55.6% from the floor, 48.5% from beyond the arc, and 88.6% from the free-throw line.
More than that, he’s also proven to be a reliable player whenever the team has needed someone to step up and fill in for either Garland or Mitchell.
Jerome doesn’t seem to be getting enough love or credit right now.
Despite his spectacular play off the bench and the fact that the Cavs are the best team in basketball, he’s still not the odds-on favorite to win Sixth Man of the Year.
Boston Celtics backup PG Payton Pritchard has held that spot for most of the season, and that’s usually how things go with smaller markets.
Nevertheless, he’s been the league’s best reserve this year, and it’s not particularly close.
