The Cleveland Cavaliers could clench the No. 1 seed in the East on Friday night if they beat the San Antonio Spurs and the Boston Celtics are defeated by the Phoenix Suns.
The Suns might not be able to get the job done against the Celtics, but history suggests the Cavaliers will overpower the Spurs.
According to Cavs Notes, Cleveland is 22-6 against Western Conference opponents and has won seven of their last eight games against the Spurs since April of 2021.
But just because they have the upper hand and are the favorites doesn’t mean the Cavaliers should take this game easy.
The Cavs will take on the Spurs tonight for the 2nd time this season.

The Cavaliers have a 61-15 record, which is the second-best in the league behind the Oklahoma City Thunder.
They have sat atop the Eastern Conference all season long, and they are favorites to enter the playoffs as the best, although the Celtics aren’t too far behind them with their 56-20 record.
Even if they decimate the Spurs during Friday’s game, the Cavaliers need to take the game seriously and perhaps even use it as a way to practice for the upcoming postseason.
If they are doing very well, they can use the game as an opportunity to let bench players get more time on the court and try out different rotations.
By doing this, they can prepare for the very busy months ahead.
The Cavaliers have a great record against Western Confernece teams, which is obviously a good thing.
Their goal is to keep that up on Friday night and especially in a few months if they can fight all the way to the NBA Finals.
