The Cleveland Cavaliers are in a tough position.
They’re coming off 64 regular-season wins but again failed to get over the hump in the playoffs.
Now, they have Evan Mobley eligible for a supermax contract extension after winning Defensive Player of the Year, and they’re already paying him, Darius Garland, Donovan Mitchell and Jarrett Allen a lot of money.
So, the Cavs enter the offseason facing some major challenges to bring in help.
With that in mind, analyst Matt Moore pointed out that the Cavs could lose three of their key role players.
“It’s sounding like the Cavs’ bench is going to be pretty dramatically different with Dean Wade, Sam Merrill and Ty Jerome all potentially not being brought back,” Moore said, via Hardwood Paroxysm.
It’s hard to argue with that prediction, as the Cavs will have to make some concessions if they’re going to keep their core four around a little longer.
Merrill is a solid shooter and made big strides on the defensive end of the floor this season, so there should be a strong market for him.
Jerome is coming off the best season of his career, and there will be plenty of takers for the Sixth Man of the Year finalist.
As for Wade, he’s struggled with injuries multiple times in the past, but he’s a solid 3-and-D wing who can guard multiple positions.
The Cavs will need to figure out their priorities and where to allocate their resources, but it will be very difficult to keep everybody.
