The Cleveland Cavaliers needed a big wing who could shoot and play defense.
That’s why they went after De’Andre Hunter.
Hunter’s combination of length and athleticism is just what this team needed to match up vs. more athletic wings.
His ability to switch onto multiple players will come in handy against some potential postseason foes, including the Boston Celtics.
However, he’s much more than a defender.
At least, that’s how GM Koby Altman feels.
When Spencer Davies spoke with him, the Cavs executive raved about Hunter’s size and ability to get his shot off over almost every defender.
We’ve talked ad nauseam about defense, but there’s much more to De’Andre Hunter’s game than meets the eye offensively.
Koby Altman explained that on Friday.

He thinks that his quick trigger and high release point will make it very difficult to stop him in Cleveland, not to mention that he will open up some things for everybody around him.
Altman then mentioned how well-coached and smart he was during his time at Virginia, so he doesn’t believe he’ll need much time to adjust to Kenny Atkinson’s cut-heavy offense.
The Cavs pulled off an epic deal with this transaction, which might be this season’s defining move.
They managed to get under the salary cap, didn’t have to give up any of their young players, and got a former No. 4 pick who’s still under contract for the next couple of seasons.
Hunter can play and guard both forward spots or hold his own against shooting guards.
He’ll be a huge part of their ability to compete with players like Jayson Tatum or Jaylen Brown.
