The Cleveland Cavaliers just had one of the best regular seasons in NBA history, but they fell short of their goals.
After losing to the Indiana Pacers on Tuesday night in the Eastern Conference semifinals, head coach Kenny Atkinson opened up to ESPN about where his team is, how far they have come, and how they aren’t where they want to be.
“I do feel like we got better,” Atkinson said. “From the team aspect and then we had a lot of individuals make a step, so I just want to make that clear. But the truth of the matter is we didn’t get to the level we wanted to get to. So, I’m not pleased with that. And we’re not celebrating the season, if that all makes sense. But I do think we made strides. I think we took a jump.”
There is no denying that the Cavaliers “made strides” in 2024-25.
In fact, they were the best team in the Eastern Conference all year.
That is a remarkable achievement, especially considering the competition.
But their impressive regular season doesn’t account for much if they aren’t able to translate that into a lot of postseason wins.
Atkinson has been a wonder for the Cavaliers, taking the team to a higher level and winning Coach of the Year after his first season.
He is sure to stick around for the foreseeable future, as are most of the stars.
They should be pleased with what they achieved in the season, but shouldn’t rest and should expect even more in 2025-26.
Right now, fans are disappointed and hurt by their team’s loss, but they need to keep the faith and hope for better days ahead.
