The Cleveland Cavaliers are among the favorites to land Kevin Love.
It makes some sense because they could use veteran leadership, and he played a pivotal role during the most successful era in franchise history.
Nevertheless, it wasn’t always easy.
That’s why insider Sam Amico doesn’t think they should bring back Love.
“If you remember, Love’s tenure in Cleveland didn’t end well. He was upset about not playing under former coach J.B. Bickerstaff. I also heard he got into it at least once with president of basketball operations Koby Altman. More importantly, Love isn’t much of an NBA contributor these days. If I’m the Cavs, I’m not bringing him back for sentimental reasons alone — and frankly, that’s the only reason they would,” Amico wrote.
There were multiple times when Love and the Cavs didn’t seem to see eye to eye.
LeBron James threw some not-so-subtle shade at him, and there were multiple reports about him not being happy with the organization.
As such, he might not even be interested in a potential reunion.
Also, as Amico pointed out, Love has barely been a factor on the court over the past couple of years, so the Cavs might be able to give that roster spot a better use.
Yet, all teams need veterans, and the Cavs looked lost and out of sorts in the playoffs last season.
Even if it’s not Love, they could use someone who can take young players under his wing and help weather the storm when things aren’t going their way.
Love should draw some interest if he is bought out by the Utah Jazz and becomes a free agent, but other than his NBA championship with Cleveland, there aren’t many reasons to think a reunion is in the cards.
