The Cleveland Cavaliers looked poised to make a deep playoff run this season.
They had one of the most stacked rosters in the NBA if you consider that they had a core four and traded for De’Andre Hunter.
Unfortunately, while they also had some strong role players in the regular season, they failed to play to that level in the postseason.
That’s why it’s not a surprise to hear that they’re looking to get better around the edges.
According to a report by Terry Pluto of Cleveland.com, the Cavs are looking to acquire role players who won’t be an offensive liability come playoff time.
“The Cavs are looking to make some roster changes, even if the Core Four remain the same. They are looking for rotation players, guys who can come off the bench and be effective in the regular season and the playoffs. For example, Isaac Okoro has been a solid player in the regular season, but his lack of offense has been a major problem in the playoffs. Opposing teams just ignore him when he has the ball,” Pluto wrote.
The Cavaliers face some severe financial limitations in adding free agents this offseason.
Some believe that, unless they trade Dean Wade and/or Isaac Okoro, they might have a tough time retaining their own free agents.
If that’s the case, it will be tough to find the kind of player they’re reportedly looking for.
They might have a couple of those on the roster already, as Craig Porter Jr. and Jaylon Tyson might be ready to embrace bigger roles next season.
Emoni Bates has struggled with inefficiency, but he’s a very talented offensive player, so he’s another potential option.
They could also look to give Nae’Qwan Tomlin an extended look.
Whatever the case, it seems like the Cavs won’t seriously consider breaking up their core, and fans can expect Darius Garland and Jarrett Allen to stay despite speculation they may be traded.
