The Cleveland Cavaliers put together a strong core.
However, with the new CBA, their big-money contracts, and their perennial postseason struggles, the fans and some analysts believe it’s time to break it up.
Nevertheless, as much as it would make sense from a basketball standpoint and even a financial perspective, Brian Windhorst doesn’t think that will be the case.
Talking on ESPN Cleveland, the renowned insider stated that as much as the Cavs will be technically obliged to explore all scenarios and listen to trade offers, it’s highly unlikely that they will make any big trades because they’re still fully committed to this core:
“They are obligated; they have a fiduciary duty to listen to offers because of the way their world is about to change entering the second apron, but they are not actively looking to make a major trade. I’m asking you to accept nuance into the world because all of these front offices are operating in that same world. The Cavs like their team, they believed their team could’ve accomplished more. They are obligated to listen to see what might be available in and around the draft,” Windhorst said.

Granted, not many teams would look to blow up their roster after winning 64 games and having the best record in the conference.
This group responded to Kenny Atkinson, and some of them played the best basketball of their careers.
Unfortunately, that might not be enough.
This team, as talented as it is, may have some character issues.
Even Koby Altman admitted that they lacked the mental toughness and grit that all teams need to get to the next level in the playoffs.
That’s something you either have or you don’t, and some of these players may not have it.
You need more than just talent to get the job done at this level.
And unless this group shows up with a huge chip on their shoulder and a determination not to be manhandled in the playoffs again, this will be their ceiling.
