The Cleveland Cavaliers have to make some tough decisions this offseason.
They didn’t get the job done when they had everything going for them.
While the Indiana Pacers weren’t a good matchup and deserve a lot of credit for their play, the Cavs should’ve won that second-round playoff series.
With that in mind, Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com believes the Cavs might go through a bit of a roster overhaul.
Fedor made a case for the Cavs to trade Darius Garland for Jalen Suggs, and he believes that moving on from Jarrett Allen might be the only way to alleviate their financial constraints.
That leaves only two untouchable players.
“I think the two untouchables are Donovan Mitchell and Evan Mobley,” Fedor said. “I have been getting the sense that the Cavs would be more willing to entertain and at least consider possibilities for Jarrett Allen and Darius Garland than they have in the past.”
The Cavs don’t have much wiggle room to add free agents this offseason.
They also might not be able to re-sign Ty Jerome or Sam Merrill, who each played a big role off the bench.
The debate about this core has been going on for years, and as much as they thrived this season, watching them struggle and get outhustled and outworked in the playoffs again may have been the final straw.
Granted, not many 64-win teams and No. 1 seeds would consider trading core pieces.
But this has been the same thing year in and year out, regardless of the head coach, so it might finally be time to do something different.
