The Cleveland Cavaliers have to make some moves.
They can’t expect things to be different if they keep doing the same thing, even if that means breaking up their core.
Koby Altman has doubled down on this core four for years now, but the outcome is always the same.
Not even hiring Kenny Atkinson and winning 64 regular-season games was enough for this team to finally get over the hump and return to the Eastern Conference Finals.
That’s why, after looking at the roster over and over, team insider Chris Fedor believes that the only solution is to move on from Darius Garland.
Talking on 92.3 The Fan, he made a strong case for the Cavaliers to move on from their former lottery pick:
“I keep coming back to the same thing. I keep coming back to Darius [Garland] has to go. If you’re going to re-imagine the offense, if you’re going to re-configure the roster, and if you’re looking to reset your salary cap situation, this is a top-heavy team that’s going to get really, really expensive as we continue to move forward. If you’re trying to accomplish all three of those things in one offseason, there is one move that allows you to do that, and it’s trading Darius,” Fedor said.
“I keep coming back to the same thing. Darius (Garland) has to go.”

Truth be told, it’s hard to argue with his statement.
Garland is a very good player, and he’s played well for the Cavaliers.
Then again, you can’t afford to have two defensive liabilities on the backcourt, and Donovan Mitchell is a better scorer.
Garland is efficient and a good playmaker, but we’ve seen him go missing in action way too many times in the clutch and in big moments.
He’s been a liability in every elimination game he’s played, and the sample size is big enough to realize that he doesn’t have what it takes to lead a team to the next level.
That’s not a swing at him; it’s just what history has shown.
The Cavs are on the verge of championship contention, and turning Garland’s contract into players who are a better fit might be just what they need to get over the hump.
