The Cleveland Cavaliers’ disappointing playoff exit has left the organization evaluating every aspect of its roster construction.
While major trade speculation continues swirling around cornerstone players Darius Garland and Jarrett Allen, the franchise appears ready to explore more subtle roster adjustments that could reshape their outlook.
With the 2025 NBA Draft approaching, the Cavaliers hold second-round picks that could serve as key pieces in potential transactions.
ESPN insider Brian Windhorst recently outlined what he expects from Cleveland’s draft strategy.
“They have the 49th and 58th picks in this draft. It wouldn’t surprise me if the Cavs moved around in the second round, either tried to package those picks to move up, traded out altogether if there’s not a player they like. Put those two picks together with somebody on their roster to either get off of salary or to do something else. I would be surprised if they draft 49 and 58 and say that’s exactly how it was planned,” Windhorst said.

The logic behind such maneuvering becomes clear when examining Cleveland’s roster and salary cap constraints.
Second-round selections rarely translate into immediate contributors for playoff-caliber teams, particularly those operating under the restrictive financial limitations that govern roster flexibility.
Packaging both picks to move into the first round represents one viable path.
This approach would allow the Cavaliers to target a more polished prospect capable of contributing meaningful minutes while maintaining cost control through a rookie-scale contract.
Alternatively, Cleveland could attach the selections to existing roster players to facilitate salary dumps or acquire veteran contributors.
Isaac Okoro has drawn trade interest as the organization seeks cap flexibility, and including draft compensation could accelerate those negotiations.
Regardless of the specific mechanism employed, these second-round picks appear destined for movement.
