The Cleveland Cavaliers are ramping up their pursuit of wing reinforcements as the NBA trade deadline approaches, with Atlanta Hawks forward De’Andre Hunter emerging as a prime target.
Reports indicate the Cavaliers have also shown strong interest in Brooklyn Nets forward Cam Johnson, signaling their commitment to bolstering their roster for a serious playoff run.
With Caris LeVert heading toward free agency, Cleveland appears ready to explore trade options.
Cleveland insider Chris Fedor expressed enthusiasm about Hunter’s potential fit with the Cavaliers.
During his appearance on Afternoon Drive by 92.3 The Fan, Fedor emphasized Hunter’s superiority as a two-way player, stating,
“De’Andre Hunter does the two-side thing better than Cam Johnson does. And I think what the Cavs need is somebody more like DeโAndre,” Fedor said.

Hunter’s versatility stands out as particularly appealing. His ability to guard multiple positions and take on opponents’ top scorers, combined with his three-level scoring capability, would give the Cavaliers greater strategic flexibility.
This versatility contrasts with Johnson, whose offensive game relies heavily on perimeter shooting.
Fedor also pointed to Hunter’s contract situation as an advantage, with two years remaining beyond this season.
While some teams might view the longer contract as a deterrent, it could benefit the Cavaliers given their salary cap structure and the uncertainty surrounding LeVert’s future.
The timing of this potential move seems optimal, as Hunter is experiencing a career-best season with the Hawks.
He’s posting impressive numbers across the board – 18.9 points per game while shooting 45.9% from the field and 38.6% from three-point range, along with 3.8 rebounds and 0.8 steals per game.
Though LeVert has been efficient from beyond the arc this season, shooting 41.4%, Hunter’s overall offensive arsenal and defensive prowess could provide the Cavaliers with a significant upgrade at the wing position.
