For years, Cleveland Cavaliers fans and analysts claimed that Evan Mobley was going to be the team’s X-Factor.
Judging by how things have fared for them this season, it’s safe to say they may have been onto something.
Mobley’s big offensive leap has helped this team have the best record in the NBA.
However, he’s far from a finished product, and he knows he’s just scratching the surface of his potential.
With that in mind, he told Forbes in an interview that he’s still looking forward to improving as a three-point shooter:
“Keep improving my 3-point shot,” says Mobley. “I feel like I still have room for growth there, but I already made a jump in that aspect. Also, just my usage and staying in attack mode the entire time, whether that’s rebounding, pushing or getting to my spots early on.”
Mobley always showed glimpses of a nice touch from beyond the arc, but he was reluctant to take many shots from deep, and even when he did, he wasn’t that efficient.
He’s now doubled his attempts from beyond the arc while also boosting his efficiency.
So far, he’s knocked down 1.1 three-pointers on 2.8 shots from deep per game, which is good for 37% from three-point territory.
He’s also been way more aggressive in getting to his spots.
He’s been in attack mode from start to finish, making sure to gain and maintain position on both ends of the glass and even using his left hand to drive.
The Cavs gave Mobley a huge vote of confidence by signing him to a huge contract extension even when he hadn’t played like a max-caliber player.
Now, at just 23 years old, he looks like a superstar in the making.
It took him a little longer than expected, but he’s finally getting there.
