The Cleveland Cavaliers’ playoff journey ended abruptly, cutting short what had been a season full of promise.
As the Eastern Conference’s top seed, the Cavaliers suffered a stunning five-game defeat to the Indiana Pacers.
Fans had held out hope for another memorable playoff run reminiscent of the championship season in 2016, but those dreams quickly faded.
In the aftermath of the series defeat, Donovan Mitchell addressed the media with a pointed message about the mindset his team should carry forward.
“The embarrassment,” Mitchell answered. “I hope we all feel it, and I think we do. 64-win season—we were slated to be up here. We lost 4-1. We were the favorite. We were the No. 1 seed. It’s not like we were an eight-seed trying to beat the one-seed. We should feel that. That’s what I said to the guys in the locker room, ‘Feel this. Embrace it.'”
Asked #Cavs Donovan Mitchell what he wants guys to take w/ them into the offseason:

Mitchell shouldered the burden in Game 5, fighting to extend the Cavaliers’ season.
The All-Star guard delivered 35 points despite shooting 8-of-25 from the field, while adding nine rebounds, one assist, and four steals across 38 minutes of play.
His performance throughout the series remained steady, averaging 34.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 2.2 steals per contest.
While connecting on 42.4% of his field goal attempts, his three-point shooting cooled to 24.5% during his 33 minutes per game.
The previous season marked real progress for the Cavaliers, winning a playoff series before falling to the eventual NBA champions.
That represented growth that the team could build upon. This postseason result, however, stings in a different way.
The disappointment was evident across the roster as players processed the unexpected early exit.
Mitchell delivered a clear message to his teammates about using this painful experience constructively.
The sting of defeat, he suggested, should serve as motivation for what comes next in their journey.
