Donovan Mitchell has earned his place as one of the best leaders in the NBA right now, but does that mean he will someday be the head coach of a team?
Speaking with Spencer Davies, Mitchell made it clear that he has no desire to coach in the NBA, but he isn’t against coaching in general.
He said he would be enticed by the idea of leading a high school squad, but he wouldn’t do college or beyond – at least not now.
But could Mitchell change his mind in the future?
“I’ve been in this league eight years. If I left it up to bad playoff performances or stuff like that, I’d be crushing myself.”

Mitchell is an incredibly crucial part of the Cleveland Cavaliers’ current success, and not just because of his on-court averages.
Instead, Mitchell has come into his role as the team’s leader and looks very comfortable with that position.
There were questions about his ability to do that when he first came to the team, but he has silenced all the critics who felt he didn’t have what it takes.
Leadership is obviously a characteristic needed for coaching and that is why some people feel that Mitchell could have a second career as a coach after he hangs up his jersey.
Of course, if he chose to do that, he wouldn’t be the first NBA star to give it a try.
Right now, there are a few former NBA players who are head coaches and they are finding varying levels of success.
But Mitchell tipped his cap to his own coach, Kenny Atkinson while saying that it might not be a path for him.
He’s not focused on anything but winning for the Cavaliers right now.
He wants to be his team’s best player before he even considers being their coach.
