The Cleveland Cavaliers have a true leader on and off the court.
Donovan Mitchell continues to excel for Kenny Atkinson’s team, having perhaps the best season of his career.
That has been particularly true when we talk about his three-point shooting.
Mitchell is currently shooting the three at the highest clip of his career (41%) despite also taking 9.4 attempts.
That’s why it wasn’t much of a surprise to see him make even more franchise history.
As pointed out by Cavs Notes on X, Mitchell’s fifth three-pointer in the win over the Los Angeles Lakers moved him past Wesley Person (550 3FG) for ninth all-time on the team’s three-pointers list.
With his 5th 3FG tonight, @spidadmitchell has moved past Wesley Person (550 3FG) for 9th place on the @cavs all-time 3FG list.
Mitchell now has 551 3FG with the Cavs.#LetEmKnow

He now has 552 three-pointers as a member of the organization.
Of course, he still has a long way to go to catch LeBron James, who sits atop the list with 1,251 made triples.
Then again, if he plays his entire contract in Cleveland, it wouldn’t be shocking to see him take him down if he continues to shoot the ball at this clip.
He’s just 26 three-pointers away from Daniel Gibson, and he could finish the season ahead of J.R. Smith (585) and Kyrie Irving (723).
He’s unlikely to pass Darius Garland (779), who’s just a handful of three-pointers away from Mark Price and the No. 3 spot, and who might become the team’s all-time leader by next season or so.
This is a new era, and three-point shooting will be crucial to find success in the modern NBA.
