The Cleveland Cavaliers may do something that was once thought unthinkable: they could trade Darius Garland this summer.
The Cavaliers would only do that if they were offered something great in exchange for him, but who could provide it?
Writing for Bleacher Report, Zach Buckley said the Minnesota Timberwolves might be in the market for Garland.
“Minnesota’s interest in Kevin Durant signaled the desire for a offensive co-star to better support Anthony Edwards. The Wolves could look to get that jolt from the lead guard spot, where 37-year-old Mike Conley is winding down and sophomore-to-be Rob Dillingham has yet to ramp up,” Buckley wrote. “Garland could be close to a dream fit, since he’s equally potent on or off the ball. That means he could scratch Minnesota’s itch for non-Edwards scoring and creation without getting in his way. Garland is a good enough distributor to generate prime point-production chances for Edwards, too.”
The T-Wolves would love to have Garland’s production and his backcourt skillset in the seasons ahead, and they believe it would fit perfectly alongside Anthony Edwards.
Would he really be a “dream fit” and the missing piece the team needs to finally make a long and strong push all the way through the playoffs?
The Cavaliers would want something substantial for Garland, so what would the Wolves be willing to offer?
They were allegedly ready to trade away Rudy Gobert, Donte DiVincenzo, and others when they were pursuing Kevin Durant – could the same be true for Garland?
Other teams might want Garland, and Buckley mentioned the Miami Heat and New Orleans Pelicans as potential homes for him.
Will he be traveling to any of those teams, or will he remain in Cleveland next season?
