The Cleveland Cavaliers may have found a legitimate contributor.
They’ve reportedly been quite impressed by Cleveland State star Tristan Enaruna, who joined the team for the Summer League.
Enaruna is one of the strongest candidates to get the team’s final two-way contract.
And, judging by what Summer League coach Omar Cook said about him, it looks like he’s well on track to get him:
“He has NBA size, can play 2-4, can shoot the ball and can guard,” Cook said of Enaruna. “He is playing the right way. He is not trying to force it. He is not trying to do too much. He’s a team player. He is doing everything I’m asking him to do. Been a pleasure to coach. He can be an NBA player.”
Enaruma scored 13 points to go along with three boards in the team’s win over the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday night.
He’s a 6-foot-8 forward from the Netherlands with strong defensive instincts, and his hustle and physicality turned plenty of heads.
The 24-year-old began his collegiate career at Kansas.
He spent two years there before transferring to Iowa State and later to Cleveland State.
In two seasons with the Vikings, he averaged 19.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game, even getting First Team All-Horizon League honors in his first year with the program.
He went undrafted and signed with the Boston Celtics last season, spending the year with the Maine Celtics of the G-League.
He’s a lengthy and strong forward who can guard multiple positions, and that’s just what the doctor ordered for this team.
As of now, the Cavs have Luke Travers and Nae’Qwan Tomlin on two-way contracts.
The team chose not to extend a qualifying offer to Emoni Bates, leaving another two-way contract spot up for grabs.
If Enaruna continues to impress with his hustle on the defensive end of the floor, it will be hard not to give it to him.
