The Cleveland Cavaliers might not be the most active team in the upcoming NBA draft, but they will be there, and they could make a splash.
Writing for Bleacher Report, Jonathan Wasserman talked about a potential pick-up the Cavaliers could pursue: Micah Peavy, the small forward from Georgetown.
“At 6’6″ in socks, Micah Peavy has a real second-round case after shooting 40.0 percent from three and averaging 3.6 assists and 2.3 steals. This late, teams will look past his age for the combination of big-wing size, versatility and two-way playmaking,” Wasserman wrote.
Anyone hoping to see the Cavaliers draft Peavy on the first night of the draft will be very disappointed.
Cleveland won’t get their chance to secure him until the second evening because they have the 58th pick.
And, of course, there is a chance that Peavy goes to another team long before the Cavaliers’ turn comes up.
If he is as promising as Wasserman said, another franchise might scoop him up early in the second round or even late in the first.
The Cavaliers haven’t focused much on the draft, simply because they don’t have a lot of options in it.
Although they will try to use their pick wisely, they will be thinking about trades more than drafting a young star.
Speaking of those trades, there are already several rumors about who they could pursue, including Giannis Antetokounmpo and others.
Still, the draft will be an important moment for the Cavaliers.
At the very least, it’ll give them insight into how other teams are handling their rosters and what plans they are making, which will inform the Cavaliers about the route they want to take.
