The Cleveland Cavaliers won’t have a lot of options in the upcoming NBA draft, but they can still do something.
Who will they select, and will they have an impact on the team right away?
Writing for Yahoo, Kevin O’Connor spoke about the young player the Cavaliers may choose: Alijah Martin.
According to O’Connor, the young player out of Florida could bring a lot to the Cavaliers.
“[Alijah] Martin is a hyper-athletic, high-energy guard who plays bigger than his size and impacts the game with his toughness, rebounding, and defensive grit. His positional tweener status, streaky shooting, and limited creation ability complicate his ability to carve out a specialized role. But his positive traits are exactly what the Cavaliers were missing in their series loss against the Pacers,” per O’Connor’s two-round mock draft.
O’Connor compared Martin to both De’Anthony Melton and Derrick Jones Jr., which should make Cavaliers fans very excited.
At 6-foot-2 and 210 pounds, the 23-year-old prospect could be a big boost for the Cavaliers, particularly off the bench.
But there is no sure thing in any draft class, so just because he did impressive work while playing for Florida doesn’t mean he will be a success in the NBA.
The Cavaliers sit toward the end of the draft, which means they don’t have a lot of options.
That makes this choice even more important.
Will they go with Martin or use their pick on someone else?
And will their draft selection be playing next season with the Cavaliers, or will they spend most of their time on the bench or with the G League?
