The Cleveland Cavaliers remain the top team in the Eastern Conference, but do they have what it takes to go all the way to the NBA Finals?
That seems more and more likely as the season goes on, especially since they are still so strong at the All-Star break.
Writing for Bleacher Report, Andy Bailey revealed the latest power rankings, and the Cavs are still the second-best team in the league.
Bailey compared the Cavaliers to the 2015-16 San Antonio Spurs, who did incredible things but still didn’t generate as many headlines as the Golden State Warriors.
“This season, the Cleveland Cavaliers are the team in the Spurs’ shoes. After blowing out the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday, their SRS ranks 13th all-time. They’re on pace for 67 wins. And yet, they can’t quite catch the Oklahoma City Thunder (who are on pace for the best single-season SRS ever),” Bailey wrote.
Yes, the Cavs might not get as much attention as the Thunder but that doesn’t mean they aren’t true championship contenders.
Plus, they are sitting comfortably at the top of the Eastern Conference with a 44-10 record.
The Boston Celtics are the second seed in the conference with a 39-16 record.
The Cavaliers have stayed toward the top of all power rankings for months now and the belief in this team has grown as they have stayed consistent and haven’t slipped or suffered too many big injuries.
There is every reason to believe they can hold onto this position all the way until the playoffs in a few months.
