The Cleveland Cavaliers have begun to create some separation at the top of the Eastern Conference standings as they own a 27-4 record.
They also have a four-game lead over the second-place Boston Celtics.
The Cavaliers are 9-1 in their past 10 games and have won six straight, winning on the back of their balanced offensive attack and defense.
The young core of Donovan Mitchell, Darius Garland, Evan Mobley, and Jarrett Allen have surpassed expectations, a credit to their new head coach, Kenny Atkinson.
At this point, it seems like Cleveland and Boston are destined to meet in the Eastern Conference Finals, as they’ve proven to be the best teams in their conference.
While the Celtics remain the overall title favorites, the Cavaliers have shown they should be taken as a serious threat to their championship repeat aspirations.
When it comes to the competition, Cleveland has also held up better against Western Conference opponents.
“The Cavs are 7-0 against the West. The Celtics are 2-2 against the West.”

Records against the Western Conference don’t necessarily indicate championship foreshadowing, but it speaks to how well the Cavaliers are playing.
The Western Conference is as competitive as ever as numerous teams can talk themselves into making the playoffs, so Cleveland’s success so far bodes well for their prospects.
However, the Cavaliers still have a long way to go before considering winning a title.
The first third of the regular season has been a massive success, but it’ll be interesting to see if they can sustain this pace.
