The Cleveland Cavaliers’ need for a backup big man was one of the reasons they couldn’t get past the Indiana Pacers in the second round.
They had no one to play behind Jarrett Allen, and Tristan Thompson isn’t a suitable option to play heavy minutes at this point in his career, especially not in the playoffs.
With that in mind, it seems like they have set their sights on an intriguing prospect.
As reported by Appalachian State on social media, PF/C C.J. Huntley just completed a workout with the Cavaliers.

Notably, this was his fourth pre-NBA Draft workout, so the Cavs might face some steep competition for his services.
Huntley has also worked out for the Los Angeles Clippers, Chicago Bulls, Charlotte Hornets, and New Orleans Pelicans.
As a five-year collegiate player, Huntley might be closer to being a finished product, but he’s also a plug-and-play guy who might be able to contribute from day one.
He’s coming off the best season of his collegiate career, averaging 15.7 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game in 33 minutes and starting 31 games for the Mountaineers.
He also made big strides to expand his shooting range, as he shot 35.6% from beyond the arc on nearly four attempts per game.
The Cavs don’t have a first-round pick right now, so they will have to settle for finding value in the second round.
They currently have the No. 49 and No. 58 selections, which they could look to package and trade up in the second round.
Huntley might be available at either spot or as an undrafted free agent, but with the recent buzz around him, they might not want to take any chances.
