The Cleveland Cavaliers have been a bit streaky since their 16-game winning streak came to an end a few weeks ago, but they are still sitting pretty at 59-15 with just a handful of games left before the playoffs and a 4-game lead for the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference.
Despite all the winning, Bruce Drennan has an issue with the team’s recent play, which has likely cost them in one crucial way in the postseason.
On a recent episode of Bonus Time, Drennan pointed out how the team’s recent mini-skid likely cost them potential homecourt advantage if the Cavs were to make the NBA Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder, who now have the league’s best record at 62-12.
“I don’t like the fact that we have relinquished homecourt, at least for now…I’m optimistically thinking, I want that homecourt throughout the playoffs, including the championship.”

His co-host pointed out that it might be more important to have homecourt advantage in a potential Eastern Conference Finals matchup with the Boston Celtics, as it’s hard to project that far ahead.
Cleveland has never made an NBA Finals without LeBron James, so this is uncharted territory for this franchise.
Fans and media members are excited and are ready for the team to take the next step after reaching the second round last year, following the first round exit the year prior.
Cleveland appears destined for another brutal ECF matchup with Boston, and the most important thing at this point is staying healthy and not taking the foot off the gas pedal.
If this team makes it to the Finals and faces off against OKC, not having homecourt is simply something it will have to deal with if it comes to that point, but there are plenty of other things to worry about prior to that.
