The Cleveland Cavaliers don’t have many tradeable assets right now.
They don’t have a lot of money available to absorb big salaries in a trade.
Additionally, you never want to disrupt a good thing when it’s working, so they likely won’t want to trade any of their key role players away at the trade deadline.
Nevertheless, that doesn’t mean they won’t be able to get some reinforcements in the buyout market.
According to ESPN insider Brian Windhorst, the Cavaliers might be interested in two prominent point guards in the future.
Talking to Tony Rizzo on ESPN Cleveland’s “The Really Big Show,” Windhorst claimed they could make a run at Ben Simmons or Lonzo Ball if they were to be made available.
We are very carefully sharing this clip from @WindhorstESPN where he talks about the types of players the Cavs COULD be looking for in the buyout market….

That makes some sense, as they can both bolster their defense and add more playmaking and court vision into the mix.
Ball missed more than two years with a knee injury, but he’s been slowly ramping things up for the Chicago Bulls.
The Bulls will most likely head towards a rebuild, and Ball could be of big use for a contending team.
Concerning Simmons, he has faced injuries throughout much of his career, and significant concerns about his character and understanding of the game have also arisen.
However, he’s incredibly talented and doesn’t seem happy with the Brooklyn Nets’ current situation.
Another factor to consider is whether he would want to play in Cleveland, but he would be a low-risk, high-reward pickup.
