The Cleveland Cavaliers have to do something this offseason.
But based on their salray cap situation, they will only have enough money to sign lower-level free agents and their own players.
That’s why they will have to dig deep if they want to land some impact players.
With that in mind, Adam “The Bull” Gerstenhaber urged executive Koby Altman to bring LeBron James back home.
“Listen to me, Koby. We all gave you your props for turning this team around. … I don’t care about regular-season awards. I don’t care about stats. I don’t care about regular-season anything. Get us a team that could win a championship, bottom line. I know with a great quarterback, I’ve got a chance to win a championship. I know even a 47, I don’t care how old LeBron is, I got a chance to win a championship with LeBron,” Gerstenhaber said.
There have been some rumors about James potentially coming home for a third time.
However, it’s hard to envision that happening.
For starters, he had some power struggles during his two previous stints with the organization.
In addition, he can pick up a $52.6 million player option to return to the Los Angeles Lakers, or take a pay cut to build a more competitive team and get more years in a new contract.
His family is based in Los Angeles, and he’s on the same team as his son, making it even tougher to envision him being slightly interested in leaving right now.
Even if that’s not the case, the Cavs will have a tough time matching his salary in any trade, and they would have to give up valuable assets to land a player who won’t be here for the long run.
James is the greatest player in franchise history, and one of the greatest of all time, but he might not be what the Cavs need at the moment.
