The Cleveland Cavaliers are coming off a strong season.
Unfortunately, that didn’t mean much in the 2025 NBA Playoffs.
Woes of old showed up again when it mattered most, confirming the doubters’ reasoning when they claimed that this team wasn’t mentally tough enough to take care of business.
Cavs executive Koby Altman even admitted that they need to add more mental toughness to get to the next level.
That raised some questions about Darius Garland and Jarrett Allen, who each have a long history of shortcomings in the postseason.
Moving on from those players won’t be as simple as it sounds, and bringing in reinforcements might be an even tougher challenge.
That’s why analyst Ryan Tyler doesn’t want fans to get their hopes up about a potential roster overhaul, as the Cavs aren’t likely to make any big moves this offseason.
“It’s going to be interesting because I’m not exactly an expert on how that second apron works, but the Cavs are already past that point, given that Donovan Mitchell’s on a massive contract. Evan Mobley’s on a massive contract, and given that he just won DPOY, that’s going to increase the money you’re going to have to pay him. Then, you’re paying Jarrett Allen $20 million, which isn’t cheap by any stretch, and then Darius Garland. The opportunities that the Cavaliers are going to have to move players is going to be very tight,” Tyler said, via “The Bruce Drennan Show.”

The Cavs just saw one of their Eastern Conference rivals, the Orlando Magic, get better by adding Desmond Bane in a trade with the Memphis Grizzlies.
The Indiana Pacers aren’t going to go anywhere any time soon, and while the Boston Celtics likely won’t have Jayson Tatum next season and the New York Knicks will have a new head coach, those teams will be strong contenders.
Given the current picture, it seems like the Cavs will have to settle for finding improvements from within or making trades to get better around the edges.
