The playoff push is heating up in Cleveland, and one new face is making waves across the basketball landscape.
The Cleveland Cavaliers acquired De’Andre Hunter before the trade deadline, adding yet another talented piece to their already formidable roster.
While the team was performing at an elite level, the front office saw an opportunity to strengthen their wing rotation with a versatile two-way player.
However, as debates continue over De’Andre Hunter’s ideal role with the Cavaliers – whether as a starter or a key bench piece – analyst Cayleigh Griffin recently shared her perspective.
“I think I like DeAndre Hunter off the bench. I’m not opposed to switching it, but I think that he has this whole season come off the bench in Atlanta, he is a front runner for Sixth Man of the Year,” Griffin said, on the “Ultimate Cleveland Sports Show.”

Hunter’s time in Atlanta showcased his ability to thrive as a reserve, where he posted career-high scoring numbers and entered the Sixth Man of the Year conversation.
His transition to Cleveland wasn’t instantaneous – he needed time to find his footing – but developing chemistry with point guard Ty Jerome has accelerated his comfort level within the offense.
The Cavaliers have experimented with their starting lineup, occasionally inserting Dean Wade for additional size, depending on matchups.
However, Hunter’s scoring punch might be most valuable for a second unit that lost reliable contributors in Caris LeVert and Georges Niang.
With the starting five already featuring four established scorers, Hunter’s ability to serve as a focal point off the bench creates a better overall roster balance.
Since donning the wine and gold, Hunter has been nothing short of electric.
Through his first six games with Cleveland, he’s averaging 14.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.0 assists.
