For years, Cleveland Cavaliers fans hoped that Darius Garland would take a leap forward.
He had shown glimpses of great play, and it looked like he was on the verge of establishing himself as a star when he made his first All-Star team.
Unfortunately, injuries took a toll on him last season, and some were worried about regression.
He’s been the team’s second-best player during this red-hot start to the season.
As Spencer Davies shows on X, Garland has been more mature in his decision-making and making the most of his skills to get by defenders and quickly get to his spots.
Not only does Darius Garland look like himself, but it’s being taken a step further.

Garland’s numbers might not be eye-popping, but he’s playing at an All-Star-caliber level.
He’s averaging 20.5 points, 2.2 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 1.3 steals, and 3.1 three-pointers per game on 53% from the floor and 44% from deep.
He’s almost on pace to join the exclusive 50/40/90 club, as he’s also knocking down 89% of his free throws.
Garland’s more aggressive approach has helped the team not rally behind Donovan Mitchell as often as it did in the past.
As a result, Mitchell has been fresh and ready to roll down the stretch, helping them secure wins and keep their foot on the gas when it matters the most.
There were rumblings about Garland not wanting to stay there if they signed Mitchell to a contract extension, as his usage had taken a dip since his arrival.
Fast-forward to today, and it seems that that’s either not true or a thing of the past.
