The Cleveland Cavaliers and Collin Sexton are seemingly at a stand-off, as the two sides haven’t come to an agreement on a new contract.
Sexton is a free agent, and although the market hasn’t been great for him, it’s starting to look more like the Cavs are either unwilling or unable to give him a new deal.
Losing Sexton would be something of a setback for Cleveland, as he has become one of the better scoring guards in the NBA and an efficient 3-point shooter as well.
With only a few NBA teams currently possessing enough cap space to sign Sexton outright, the Cavs may be able to swing a sign-and-trade deal if they cannot come to terms with him.
How about trading him to the New York Knicks for Evan Fournier?
How Fournier Could Help The Cavs
Fournier is a 6-foot-7, 205-pound shooting guard who can also play the small forward spot, and perhaps his greatest strength is his 3-point shooting.
He has a career accuracy of 38.1 percent from beyond the arc, and this past season he made 38.9 percent from the distance.
Outside shooting is an area of concern for the Cavs, as they finished 15th in the league in 3-point shooting percentage and had only three regular rotation players who shot above 36 percent from downtown.
The Cavs also need more talent and depth at the wing spot, as Isaac Okoro and Cedi Osman haven’t panned out yet and incoming rookie Ochai Agbaji may take some time to develop enough to help the team.
Fournier moves without the ball well and spaces the floor with his ability to hit treys, a trait that could open things up for Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen inside.

Fournier seems adept at hitting contested outside shots, and he can also evade defenders, readjust and get himself better looks.

He can even put the ball on the floor a bit, attack the basket and convert layups.
Overall, Fournier averaged 14.1 points per game during the 2021-22 season while posting a solid true shooting percentage of 55.4.
Defensively, he may not be good, but he’ll at least bring a sincere effort to the floor, and he may look a little better with two shot blockers in Garrett and Mobley having his back.
Sexton Could Help The Knicks
New York is reportedly in hot pursuit of Donovan Mitchell right now, but the Utah Jazz are asking for a king’s ransom in return.
If the two teams cannot agree to a trade, maybe Sexton would be a decent consolation prize for the Knicks.
In New York, Sexton could attack and shoot to his heart’s delight, especially if the team moves on from Julius Randle, as some have rumored it wants to.
Sexton and Jalen Brunson would give the Knicks an undersized backcourt that would be defensively vulnerable, but both would score lots of points and possibly even put butts in seats at Madison Square Garden.
