The Cleveland Cavaliers lost on Friday night, but they are still the best team in the Eastern Conference and have secured a spot in the upcoming playoffs.
The team can get better, and head coach Kenny Atkinson knows it.
A video shared by the team featured Atkinson talking about how the Cavaliers can improve.
He talked about their rebounding abilities and touched upon how they need to improve.
“It’s obvious we’re lacking in that area right now. I told the guys, ‘Listen. What you don’t want is to be down in a series 2-0 because you’re getting pounded on the boards.’ There’s other things you know that can happen. But having that happen is kind of inexcusable. So, it’s definitely something we got to turn; we’ve got to fix,” Atkinson said.
Rebounds equal control of the ball, which is why Atkinson is so focused on making sure the Cavs get a lot of them.
If they want to run the court and set the tempo, they need to work hard on getting boards.
Every player on the team will have a hand in this, but it’ll mostly fall on Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen.
These two big men are working excellently together, and they have improved their games, both individually and collectively, this year.
This season, Mobley is averaging 9.3 rebounds per game and Allen is grabbing 10.0.
The Cavaliers lost to the Detroit Pistons on Friday and now they are right back at it, playing the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday afternoon.
They have just a few more games left in the regular season, so can they listen to their head coach and improve their rebounding skills before the playoffs begin?
