The Cleveland Cavaliers have every reason to be optimistic and excited about their championship chances as they own the best record in the league heading toward the midway point of the 2024-25 NBA season.
The Cavaliers are the only team to have 30 victories so far and are riding a nine-game winning streak.
Cleveland’s been on a roll throughout the year and has done it behind an explosive offense and a strong defense at every level.
Donovan Mitchell has been the engine of the offense, acting as a scorer and a playmaker when needed, though he’s had plenty of help.
One large reason behind the Cavaliers’ success is Evan Mobley, who is making the kind of fourth-year leap that most expected him to.
In fact, Mitchell has taken notice of Mobley’s improvement and said he believes that this is going to be his teammate’s new baseline going forward.
“He has taken that step,” Mitchell said of Mobley, via Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com. “Everyone has been asking and he has taken that step. It’s beautiful to see. This is the worst that Evan is going to be and it’s not too shabby.”
Mobley’s blend of size, length, basketball IQ and athleticism make him an ideal frontcourt player in today’s NBA.
He’s shown an improved perimeter shot, and defensively he seems to be comfortable handling different assignments.
Mobley is a legitimate franchise building block who is only getting better, and he could be the key to Cleveland’s title hopes.
