The Cleveland Cavaliers have more than a star in Donovan Mitchell.
They also have a leader.
Every step of the way, the Louisville product has earned a reputation for being an approachable, down-to-earth person who always puts his team first.
Notably, that has everything to do with his upbringing.
As he recently discussed with NFL star Ryan Clark, he was raised with education as the number one priority.
Donovan Mitchell remembers days he didn’t have enough money to eat lunch with his private school friends. He’d sit and hope no one noticed he didn’t order.

He also had to watch his mother and sister make big sacrifices to ensure he was all set and had everything he needed to succeed.
That’s why he didn’t hesitate to buy his mother a house as soon as possible in the same neighborhood his friends grew up in.
Mitchell talked about the long drives his mother had to endure to check up on him in college and how his sister had to give up many things for his sake, not even knowing whether he’d become the star he is nowadays.
It worked out just fine.
Mitchell just signed a three-year contract extension worth around $50 million a year, in addition to his previous career earnings from his days with the Utah Jazz.
Once this contract expires in a couple of years, he will be eligible to sign yet another max deal.
Mitchell and his family are all set for life and beyond, which should be his career’s most significant honor and accomplishment.
