The Cleveland Cavaliers are the best team in the NBA right now, at least record-wise.
They’ve blown out their opponents but have also won the close games.
For the first time since arriving in Cleveland, Donovan Mitchell has not been asked to do all the heavy lifting.
When asked about the team’s new-look offense, Mitchell compared it to his days with the Utah Jazz (via Spencer Davies).
Recurring theme of the #Cavs offense through five games is the shot distribution.

Mitchell talked about Kenny Atkinson’s free-flowing offense and how it keeps opposing teams guessing.
Just like he used to do in Utah with players like Mike Conley, Joe Ingles, Bojan Bogdanovic, Rudy Gobert, Jordan Clarkson, or even Royce O’Neale, the Cavs are now doing it with Darius Garland, Evan Mobley, Caris LeVert, Jarrett Allen, and Dean Wade.
Mitchell also praised the young players for learning and growing between seasons.
He discussed the importance of growing pains and how the team is better because of how hard they’ve worked.
Atkinson spent a lot of time working next to Steve Kerr with the Golden State Warriors, and fans can see shades of that free-flowing offense in Cleveland.
Everybody is getting their touches, and it’s easy to find an offensive rhythm when you’re getting plays drawn up for you and getting involved in the offense instead of standing in a corner or being a spot-up shooter.
The Cavaliers look great, and even if it’s still early in the season, expectations should be high for this group of players.
