The Cleveland Cavaliers recently added a new assistant coach, and he could be changing the way the team works.
Speaking on the latest episode of his show, Chris Fedor spoke about Jawad Williams, who is coming to the Cavs from the Sacramento Kings.
“What makes this potential pairing particularly intriguing is [Jawad] Williams’ recent experience in Sacramento, where he witnessed an offense centered around a playmaking big man in Domantas Sabonis,” per Wine and Gold Talk Podcast. “This perspective could prove invaluable for Mobley’s development. While the Cavaliers began experimenting with Mobley as an offensive hub last season, having a coach who witnessed firsthand how to build a successful offense around a skilled big man could accelerate that evolution.”
Williams spent years working closely with Domantas Sabonis and saw him transform into one of the most important big men in the league.
He was someone who had a crucial, undeniable impact on the Kings’ offense, becoming a vital part of everything they did.
Fedor said that Sabonis became “the sun” for Sacramento because all action revolved around him.
This is what the Cavaliers want with Mobley.
For the last few years, they have been asking a lot more of him, and he has started to deliver.
Last season, he reached new heights and played incredibly well, earning Defensive Player of the Year and drawing the attention of fans throughout the league.
But the Cavaliers aren’t done, and they want even more from him in the seasons ahead.
Oftentimes, specific players need assistant coaches to work with them one-on-one.
It is through that sort of work that they are able to improve their game, enhance their skills, and change how they operate.
Will Williams be the person who can help Mobley reach even higher?
