The Cleveland Cavaliers don’t have a lot of wiggle room to make moves this offseason.
They likely can’t afford to sign any big-name free agents, and they might have a tough time keeping some of their own players.
That’s why, if they want to make a big splash, they will have to dig into the trade market.
According to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, the Cavs reportedly have reached out to the Phoenix Suns about a potential trade for Kevin Durant, via Grant Puskar.
Per @BrettSiegelNBA: heโs heard the #Cavs have checked in on potentially trading for Kevin Durant.

The Suns could use depth, a point guard and a center, and the Cavs just happen to have two-time All-Star point guard Darius Garland and rim-protecting big man Jarrett Allen who might not be part of their future.
Granted, the Cavs will likely have to convince Durant to sign a contract extension.
Otherwise, giving up Garland and Allen in a trade for Durant, while helpful and a likely improvement, would be a one-year rental, and that’s not the kind of deal to make when trying to compete for the long haul.
Durant is still a superstar, and though he’s older and has dealt with significant injuries, he’s one of the greatest players of all time and a proven playoff performer.
