Should the Cleveland Cavaliers attempt to shake things up or stay the course?
If they are going to make changes this summer, they have options.
But the team’s front office hasn’t made it clear what they plan to do: build a new roster or run it back with this squad.
Writing for Bleacher Report, Grant Hughes made it clear that the Cavs probably won’t be able to do much with their draft picks.
He also added that they shouldn’t, and should instead keep the team they have.
“Cleveland isn’t going to make waves with a pair of late second-rounders, but the temptation to swing a trade or cut costs might be strong. The Cavs will have about $145 million earmarked for Donovan Mitchell, Darius Garland, Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen in 2025-26. They’re over the second apron and have a projected franchise-high $57 million tax payment,” Hughes wrote. “But none of the core four should be on the move. The Cavs need to emphasize steadiness and faith in last year’s success by having a quiet, trade-chatter-free draft day.”
Hughes said none of the core four – Donovan Mitchell, Darius Garland, Evan Mobley, and Jarrett Allen – should be on the move, but it doesn’t mean the Cavs will listen to him.
There is a chance any four of those players will be departing Cleveland.
If the front office hears a request that is too good to pass up, no one is safe.
When it comes to their draft picks, the Cavs have Nos. 49 and 58.
They won’t be desired by many other teams, but perhaps the Cavaliers can turn them into something by packaging them in a bigger deal featuring one of their players.
The Cavaliers have options, but not many of them.
